Pheasant Hunting

Has anyone been to South Dakota or Kansas for Pheasant hunting? If so, what outfitter did you use or recommend?

I have been to Torrey Lake Lodge in Platte, SD and to Thunderstik Lodge in Chamberlain, SD. Been two times to each lodge. Both were good hunting, but Torrey Lake has better accommodations/food. At both places, they release a bird for every wild bird that is killed—thus there are always lots of birds. The released birds have been in the field for several months, so they act like wild birds. We got our limits by late morning on each trip. It gets expensive to keep shooting, or makes for a long day to wait for the next day of hunting. But every avid bird hunter should go to SD at least once in his lifetime.

you do not need an outfitter… just get out on PUBLIC land and walk… dogs are great but not required… I do it for two weeks every year since 1998
