Nice spadefish. You might try this to reduce the breakoffs. When the fish heads down to the reef structure flip the bail on your reel and give complete slack. Most of the time they will swim back toward the surface where you can resume the fight. Repeat as necessary. This works for me when using 12lb test for spades.
